Mission details:

• Ariane 5 flight V187, vehicle L545 took off from Kourou on Feb 12, 2009. Its two communication satellite paylods were Eutelsat's Hot Bird 10 and SES New Skies' NSS 9.
• NSS 9 is a television and radio broadcasting satellite, launched for SES New Skies and manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation, using the Star-2 platform. Body of the satellite is box-shaped, 2.3 x 3.05 x 4.1 metres, plus two vanes of solar panels which have a deployed span of 12.6 metres. Satellite initially located over 186 deg E: approximately March 7 it was manoeuvred off-station and started to drift towards its planned operational longitude, 177 deg E.
• 28 C-band transponders for voice and video communication.
